The exhibition drew on the collections of The Corning Museum of Glass, the British Museum, and the Römisch-Germanisches Museum of Cologne. The exhibition, enriched with pieces from major Italian museums, showed the story of Roman glass in the Imperial Age (100 B.C. to A.D. 500). The collections provided examples of every major development in glassmaking techniques and decoration during that period. The book was published by Olivetti (Milan, Italy) for The Corning Museum of Glass, the British Museum, and the Römisch-Germanisches Museum.

Signed
Condition: Very good. - Over 65 words penned on 5-1/2 inch high by 3-1/2 inch wide creamy white "1 St. Albans Road, Victoria Road, Kensington" embossed stationery. In his letter addressed to T.H. Hills, Elmore fears that he may not feel well enough to have dinner with his friend on Thursday: "I am not very well or strong and I fear I shall be too done up to join you at dinner on that day." Signed in full "Alfred Elmore". Folded for mailing with a strip of paper glued along the top of the verso. Very good. The British historical genre painter Alfred Elmore (1815-1881) was born in Clonakilty, Ireland. Initially influenced by Richard Parkes Bonington's troubadour style, he soon moved on to paint religious canvases such as "The Martyrdom of Thomas a Becket", a work commissioned by Daniel O'Connell for Dublin's Westland Row Church. Associated with "The Clique", young artists who followed in the footsteps of Hogarth and David Wilkie, Elmore's paintings frequently explored historical settings, including episodes from Shakespeare and the French Revolution. He often incorporated scenes depicting technological innovations such as depicted in his paintings "The Invention of the Stocking Loom" and "The Invention of the Combing Machine", though his most famous work "On the Brink" is a moral genre painting of young woman who has lost her fortune gambling and is on the brink of responding to the seduction of a satan-like figure.
