Add to basketUnbound. Condition: Good. First Edition. Collection of seven provincially printed broadsides relating to the Crimean war, all printed in 1854 or 1855, the smallest measuring approximately 170mm x 370mm in size and the rest approximately 245mm x 370mm. All lightly browned, some light foxing and light creasing, a few small nicks and tears, one 'News From Sebastopol!' with small chip to left hand margin and small hole to centre catching a few letters but with no loss of sense, 'Statistics and Statements' with loss to bottom right hand corner, but no loss of text, 'Bombardment of Sebastopol' is laid on to linen. 'Bombardment of Sebastopol' was printed by T. & W. Plant in Clare Street, Nottingham, possibly descendants of James Plant (see BBTI); the remainder were printed by Thomas Stevenson in Wheeler-Gate, probably the same printer as the Thomas Stevenson & Co. located in Middle Pavement Nottingham in 1847 (see BBTI). A mixture of news from the Crimean war which was one of the first conflicts to be extensively documented in reports and photographs. The topics here include death numbers, notable events and diplomatic developments, and are taken from a number of sources, including European and Russian papers. Lord Raglan is noted in one as "a good rider, and does not appear to feel the want of the arm which he left at Waterloo". All are unrecorded in Library Hub Size: Folio. Broadside.

Ephemera. Condition: Very Good. A collection of 12 broadsides preserved on heavy cardstock backing, most with handwritten notes in the margin or on the verso; size ranges from about 218x130 to 430x172 mm; dating from 1859-1889, with most in the 1860s. Condition is generally VG, with some light rubbing, age-toning, and dust-soiling; the occasional chip or scuff; sometimes notations are inked directly onto the broadside, or even filling in text that's been chipped away. Notations indicate that many of these were from the collection of Ed. M. Cosley, they also note, sometimes at length, locations names, locations, or other details about some of the performers listed (for example, a broadside for an exhibition of the Troy Grammar School lists George Iott in a music trio; on the verso, it is noted that he later traveled with quartet of singers). Includes Troy Union School, Troy Grammar School, Mr. Ascher's Grand Concert at Mayo's Hall, Benefit for the Ladies' Aid Society, Grand Concert at Chaffee Hall, Coronation of the May Queen at Murphy Hall, the Merchants' Canial at [Troy Opera House] (indicated by notation). Some broadsides identify the printer -- Times Printer, Miami Union. A potentially very rich treasure trove of local history, worthy of further study.
