Pictorial Cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Small cardboard hardback. Light blue/green boards illustrated with a little girl in a pink dress with blue sash and wearint a white bonnet with blue ribbon (front). On the back is a little girl in a winter scene with a hand muff. Wear to boards including top layer of spine area mostly gone, so cloth and brown paper are showing. (Boards in fair to poor condition). Staple binding. Pages are tight with browning and some with a little dirtiness. Gift inscription on inside front board, dated 1895. Brown stain on title page and inside front board. Only print info stated is Copyright 1880. Unpaginated. 4 full-page illustrations including the back inside cover. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Dark brown cloth decorated in bright gilt & black, light stain visible on the back board, boards a bit warped at the bottoms, joints very good, tight, 7 1/4 x 5 inches. Old stains visible on the end papers front and back, with the text itself being clean. Frontispiece illustration from the story, one additional plate, 290 clean pp., publisher's catalogue. A story of the Jews in Babylonian captivity, particularly of a young man named Naphtali. and his later return to Jerusalem. The story is filled with Bible verses and promises, and culminates in the promise of a Redeemer who will come to save His people.Emma Elizabeth Brown (1847-1937), b. Concord, NH; the daughter of a prominent bookseller and collector, John Frost Brown. Her father influenced her early love of books and literature, and encouraged her literary efforts. She contributed poetry and prose to various literary and religious magazines, including to the Atlantic Monthly and Littell's Living Age, and wrote books suitable for Sunday School and other reading. She also wrote biographies of Washington, Grant, Garfield, and Oliver Wendell Holmes. In addition, she was a noted watercolor artist; it is remembered that the demand for them exceeded their supply.
