Nach Stationen in Europas größter Baumschule und im Botanischen Garten Kew, London, sowie einem Volontariat bei einem Stuttgarter Ratgeberverlag lebt er seit 2004 seine grüne Passion nicht nur im Garten und auf dem eigenen Balkon aus, sondern auch als Buchautor und Gartenjournalist, Lektor und Übersetzer von Gartenbüchern. Seit 2008 betreibt er mit seinem Partner ein auf Gartenbücher und -magazine spezialisiertes Redaktionsbüro in Stuttgart. Seit seiner Kindheit ist Folko Kullmann von Pflanzen fasziniert und so war es keine Überraschung, dass er sein Hobby zum Beruf gemacht hat und in Weihenstephan Gartenbauwissenschaften studierte. Nach Aufenthalten in Bad Zwischenahn bei Bruns Pflanzen, Europas größter Baumschule, und in London im Botanischen Garten Kew sowie dem Abschluss als Diplom-Ingenieur für Gartenbau arbeitete und forschte er weitere dreieinhalb Jahre am Lehrstuhl für Gemüsebau der TU München an der Entwicklung von Torfersatzstoffen.
