The book was The first comprehensive study of carribean Bermudian Antiques in the period 1612-1830, specialising in West indian furniture and silver. 154 pages on furniture 44 pages on silver. CedarWood was indigenous to Bermuda so most furniture was made of it until Mahogany was imported AROUND year 1700. The Black and White Photographs show furniture from homes all over Bermuda. These show that although the English, Americans and Spanish influenced Bermudian design, the Bermudians made furniture and silver distinctly and charmingly their own." - The furniture section shows: Chairs, sofas, tables, sideboards, desks, cupboards and more. The silver section describes the silversmiths and shows: Silver tankards Church silver Silver Salvers and trays Silver Cutlery And more. The author, Hyde, married a woman from Bermuda, and took most of the 458 Photographs.

This 1961 first edition is bound in green cloth with gold print on the spine and is signed with a gift inscription by the author. The book is tight and bright with no markings, some age discoloration along the edges, especially bottom of back cover. The unclipped ($15.00) dust jacket is very good--colorful and complete with wear along top edge, now in protective cover. The author, whose wife's family had lived in Bermuda since the 1600s, has compiled information and 458 photographs of the furniture and silver he describes. Inscribed by Author(s).

(the only other copy of this title we have seen was similar in appearance.) Bright gilt lettering upon spine. Dust jacket, now preserved in glossy new archival-grade Brodart, bears above-average wear and several closed tears. A sound copy.
