Illustrated generously throughout with photographs, drawings and paintings in colour and black and white. A fine copy, the binding square and tight, the contents clean throughout and without previous owners' stamps or inscriptions. Complete with the very lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper which has a small nick to the head of the front flap fold. Issued in a limited edition of 150 copies, from which this is example is numbered 98 and signed by Darrell Buttery, Ron Cooke, Stephen Lewis, Chris Shepherd, Richard Shephard, Clare Bragshaw and Duncan Beal on the half title. There was also a trade edition of 1500 unsigned copies, issued with a different dustwrapper design and without the slipcase. A highly detailed, illustrated guide to the changing face of the streets of York over time. Historical paintings and photographs are contrasted with modern photographs of the same views to clearly demonstrate where buildings and spaces have been demolished, built or converted. Many of the paintings and sketches featured in the book were reproduced from originals in public and private collections, including York Art Gallery and The Merchant Adventurers Company.
