First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Small 4to. Blue cloth with gilt lettering and decorations. xv, 366pp. Top edge gilt. Frontispiece, illustrations. Very good. Spine faintly age toned and edgeworn, remainder near fine -- tight and bright, with giltstamping fresh. A lovely first edition of this thick memoir by the famed late 19th/early 20th century actor and vaudevillian (1857-1919) best known for his portrayal of Fagin in a 1912 stage version of Charles Dickens' "Oliver Twist." This sharp copy bears a choice autograph addition: Neatly tipped on the blank margin beneath Goodwin's frontispiece head-and-shoulders portrait is an inscribed and signed (in bold pencil) lined 2" X 4" slip: "Yours Truly / Nat Goodwin Jr." Early example -- Goodwin later usually signed himself "Nat C. Goodwin." Interestingly, front flyleaf bears the circular blind-embossed ownership imprint of well-known television character actor Robert Casper (1924-2020). An exceptional, tight 'n' bright copy of a title often found in sad, saggy condition and with interesting added signature.
