Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, a translation of the Lalitavistara, recounts the early life of Buddha from his concept to his departure from the Tushita heaven for earth, where he would be born to Maya Devi. The Lalitavistara is one of the most sacred texts of Buddhism, providing the most detail about the life of Buddha prior to his birth. It is of particular importance to the Northern Buddhist tradition and is rich in mythological elements that have provided inspiration for countless works of art throughout the ages. Some scholars even suggest the text of this book provided the inspiration for the creation of the magnificent Borobudur. The themes of the book focus on the divine nature of Buddha, contrasting him with other ascetics and yogis. It underscores the importance of ethics and righteousness, underscoring the importance of ethical conduct and living a virtuous life. This book offers great insights to the life of Buddha, especially for those looking to gain a deeper understanding of the core texts of Buddhism. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
