Edward Calvert (illustrator). 1st Edition. 30 leaves with 6 having fabric applied and dressed doll hand coloured woodcut plates with the artist named as "Calvert", probably the highly sought after Victorian artist and print maker Edward Calvert? Illustrated paper limp card covers, with front and rear endpapers being Dean and Son adverts for new books, printed on flimsy litmus type paper tinted lavender. The boards are creased and soft, wear with loss at corners and edges and rubbed and handled, the first plate is a moveable and in good working order all other plates are in good condition no stains or losses, FFEP's have a small mark at bottom edge. For the scarcity value of these "TOY" books, this copy is a good survivor NOTE* All the fabrics in this dress book varied in each copy, no two were exactly alike and the materials used (snips and cuttings) were unique to EACH copy. **Also the name CALVERT as the artist is initialled these prints almost exactly as the artist signed his fabulous prints in block letters. This would a be an unrecorded work he did regarding his small output, the British Museum hold 65 of his works. A circle of Blake followers in the 1820's with Samuel Palmer and was one of a group of artists called "The Ancients".
