African American artist, rock musician, poet and scenic designer Campbell was born in Marshall, Texas in 1951 and moved to Los Angeles when he was 24. He passed away in 2004 from diabetes. Capra was a friend who took over Campbell's Brass Tacks publishing house and continues to publish his late friend's works.
