In this letter, Capp responds to a young lady who has written to columnist Harry Harris, a friend of Capp's from the "Philadelphia Inquirer," in part: ".I read your letter to Harry Harris in which you sympathized with me for playing 'Daniel' to a 'lion's den' of nasty students on the Educational program 'The Show'.They had been instructed, they said, by the bearded and beaded producers of 'The Show' to - 'kick the hell out of Al Capp'. And your sympathy should go to those people whose contributions to 'Educational' TV support it, in the honest hope they are supporting honest journalism. They were short changed. Many of the responses you heard from me on the version you saw were not mine, in any honest journalistic sense. They were mutilated (phrases omitted, endings omitted, transposed and re-arranged) and then glued together, out of context, in the fashion made famous by the late Senator Joe McCarthy. The ending you saw was not the original ending.it was hastily substituted without our knowledge for the true ending.My reply and final summing up was cut out, and so was the response to it.As for myself, I consider anyone who alters my opinions no better than anyone who alters my signature. But it is comforting to know, isn't it, Julie, that program-rigging, which was cleaned out of commercial TV years ago, is alive and well, and working in 'Educational' television in Hershey, Pa."
