Labruzzi war als Maler und Kupferstecher in Rom tätig. 1781 wurde er in die Academia di San Luca aufgenommen, seit 1814 war er deren Direktor. Er war vorwiegend als Landschaftsmaler tätig, Genreszenen sind eher selten. Darüber hinaus radierte er auch Ansichten römischer Altertümer für die Kunstverlage Frauenholz in Nürnberg und Dall'Armi in Rom. Labruzzi gehört zu den römischen Künstlern, die den Klassizismus vertreten. Er malte in erster Linie Landschaften mit historischer Staffage, doch als Zeichner und Radierer schuf er mehrere Folgen, die Einzelfiguren oder Gruppen von Landleuten bzw. Figuren der römischen Mythologie darstellen. Die National Gallery of Art, Washington, besitzt einige Radierungen in Rotdruck, die aus einer solchen Folge stammen. Wir vermuten, daß unsere Zeichnung, die voll signiert und datiert ist, bei Labruzzi selten anzutreffen, für einen Sammler angefertigt wurde, wobei sich Labruzzi auf eine dieser Radierungen bezieht.
