Add to basketSoft cover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Paperback. In original tan printed wrappers, 96 pp., 4 black and white photographic plates, and very large folding color soil survey map of the Visalia area at rear. The map, based on U. S. Geological Survey topographic coverage, shows cultural details (individual buildings, roads, railr…oads, etc.) in addition to soil types and distribution within the region, necessary for delineating important and desirable agricultural areas. Descriptions and characteristics of soil classifications shown on the map are provided in the report together with information about principal and lesser crops grown at the time of the survey. An early edition and possibly the first soil survey of the Visalia area. Later soil surveys provide more maps and finer details but lack the visual appeal, simplicity, and historical content of this earlier large color map. *** Condition: Complete as issued. Ex-library with ink stamp and call numbers on front wrapper, else the booklet is internally clean with no other markings. Removed from bound volume with roughness and chipping to wrappers along the bound edge, loose or detaching pages, and stitch holes along the left margin not affecting the map. The map has a couple of short opening tears and is bright, crisp, and clean.

Tight unmarked book in clean black cloth; in glossy dust jacket with a few surface impressions.; 12.0 X 11.5 X 1.7 inches; 312 pages; Officially sponsored by the Indonesian National Arts and Crafts Council (Dekranas) , Dancing in Silver… pays homage to Indonesia's first modern jewellery designer, Runi Palar. Featuring photos of more than 300 of her best designs created during a career that spans amost fifty years, the book is a visual delight and an inspiration to anyone interested in Indonesia and/or body adornment. The book includes an in-depth essay that gives insight into a generation of young Indonesian artists who tenaciously established their own artistic identities. Runi's story begins in the 1960s and develops in tandem with the evolution of Indonesia's contemporary art scene, the integration of the country's rich artistic traditions into modern art, and the release from colonial oppression. Dancing in Silver explores Runi's collections, discusses her influences and demonstrates why her creations are coveted and collected throughout Indonesia and around the world.

Couverture rigide. Condition: Comme neuf. Edition originale. Paris 2012. 1 Volume/1. -- New -- Hardback quarto size (.28,5 x 23,5 cm ). ----- 328 pages. The main essay takes the readers on a historical journey to experience the continuity and evolution of Indonesian jewellery in the region. Maps of the Indonesian archipelago and… specific regions show the location of the ethnic groups. Nearly 600 photographs, organised by region and ethnic group, give a glimpse of the scale and range of jewellery. The Introduction provides a glimpse into the lifestyle and social systems of Indonesia's indigenous people. ******************** "" Ethnic Jewellery from Indonesia : Continuity and Evolution is a compelling introduction to the little-known and visually-powerful body adornments of the ethnic peoples of Indonesia's outer islands, including Sumatra, Borneo, Sulawesi, Sumba and Maluku. The history of the jewellery is told from the perspective of the materials used, including gold, silver, brass, ivory, shell and animal teeth. Illustrated with nearly 600 photographs of rare jewellery amassed over 30 years by collector Manfred Giehmann, this book explores the depth and breadth of an ancient and magnificent tradition of the Indonesian people. It will provide information on the origin, meaning and purpose of the jewellery, as well as unique insights into the people who crafted and wore the jewellery for ritual or ceremonial functions. Ethnic Jewellery : Continuity and Evolution is a definitive work on the subject and a testimony to the living traditions of cultures usually shrouded in mystery. ************************* ref od654w.

"Put together over a period of twenty years, the Huntington Miller Collection of Keris and Keris Hilts is a tour de force. The emphasis here is on the sculptural aesthetic and historical importance of this unique art form from thr…oughout Indonesia: Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Bali, Lombok, Sulawesi and beyond. It is story that spans centuries and the rise and fall of countless kingdoms and polities. The hilts range from minimalistic forms to the abstract to opulent royal weapons beautifully crafted to project prestige and wealth. So, too, they carry with them the aura of mystery and magic of the islands of Southeast Asia, which captured the imaginations of foreigners even before the beginning of the Age of Spices, when the perilous journey from Europe to Indonesia took a year to complete. With a terse and informative text written by Indonesian art expert, Bruce W. Carpenter, this is a cultural and artistic voyage that delights the eye and stimulates the mind.".
