März 1999 im Childwickbury Manor bei London) war ein US-amerikanischer Filmregisseur, Filmproduzent und Drehbuchautor. Er gilt als einer der bedeutendsten und einflussreichsten Filmemacher aller Zeiten. Kubrick wirkte nach einer kurzen Karriere als Fotograf zunächst bei drei Kurzfilmdokumentationen und anschließend bei 13 Kinospielfilmen als Regisseur. Inhaltlich und stilistisch gleicht kein Film dem anderen. Zu seinen bekanntesten Werken zählen Wege zum Ruhm (1957), Spartacus (1960), Dr. Seltsam oder: Wie ich lernte, die Bombe zu lieben (1964), A Clockwork Orange (1971), Barry Lyndon (1975), Shining (1980) und Full Metal Jacket (1987).
