Decorated Cloth. Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. King James VI Golf Club: Record and Records by William Caw (compiler), 1912. Illustrated and with fold-out map. 68 pages. Cover illustration of the seal of King James VI. Five men form the second golf club in Perth in 1858, the first being The Royal Perth Golfing Society, and begin to play their golf on the North Inch with thirty members. An excellent and under-rated club history with many incidents of the mid-1800s recounted. One such account relates how Young Tom Morris, age 13, was denied entry into a King James VI Golf Club-promoted tournament, ultimately won by his loving da, Old Tom. Enough visiting professionals were upset with Young Tom being denied, that a special one-on-one match was arranged. To no one's surprise, Morris won easily. It was also Old Tom Morris who in 1892 designed the additional six necessary holes to bring the links' total to 18. Included is a two-page color map of the Moncreiffe Island Golf Course. Red cloth covers clean and bright, no fading to spine. Original endpapers, no hinge damage, slight pastedown offset. Contents clean throughout, no foxing. Covers protected in mylar. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
