Housed in the publisher's orignal cardboard slipcase. Frontispiece and illustrated title page in color. The binding, in otherwise fine condition, has a hint of sunning at the top and bottom edges of the spine and the partially sun-faded slipcase is slightly bumped at foot of spine. This exquisite work contains Marc Chagall's original designs for "Aleko, "The Firebird" and "Daphnis and Chloe." Fernand Mourlot printed the color plates and the original lithograph.

Included are the original designs, costumes, decors, sets, and sketches for the various dancers, magicians, monsters, and peasants. Original lithograph frontispiece created for this book (Mourlot 581) is bright and unmarked, without the wavyness that sometimes plagues this title.

Cet ouvrage est illustré de 7 lithographies en couleurs dont le frontispice et deux double-page. In-fine est inséré une planche dépliante. Manque le rhodoïd et l'étui cartonné, la page de titre et le frontispice se détachent, l'intérieur et la jaquette sont très frais (infime accroc). Marc Chagall (1887-1985), artiste Français né en Biélorussie, est un des plus illustres représentant de l'école juive russe du début du siècle, marqué par le folklore de son pays. Ses oeuvres puisent inlassablement au répertoire folklorique yiddish des shtetls et de la musique kletzmer. Formé en Russie, son style est à la charnière du cubisme et du fauvisme. Livre.
