Charles De Feo (1891-1978) was commissioned by The House of Seagram to illustrate two Gadwall in flight in the late 1940s. The artwork was used by Seagram's for their promotional advertising. Mr. De Feo's original drawing (signed in the lower right corner) is the more colorful piece shown at the top, and the published and much touched-up (and quite somber) version is mounted below. Each measures 11 3/4 x 9 with the overall dimensions of 28 x 18. Charles De Feo was a well-respected outdoor artist who illustrated many books and magazines, to include Outdoor Life, Sports Afield, Cosmopolitan plus many others. Perhaps he is best remembered for his exquisite drawings of salmon in Roderick Haig-Brown's 1941 publication of Return to the River. Professionally mounted, matted and framed. In fine condition.
