Chinnery war 1924-1932 der 'Government Anthropologist' von Neuguinea. Seine jeder für sich sehr seltenen 'Reports' sind sehr gesuchte ethnologische Werke, die durch Detailreichtum und sehr gute Ausstattung mit vielen Fotografien auf Kunstdruckpapier auf sich aufmerksam machten.
