Nathan Chytraeus (Menzigen, Palatinat 1543 - Brême, 1598), humaniste, poète et philologue, fit un tour d'Europe en 1565. Lui et son frère aîné David Chytraeus contribuèrent activement au développement de la Réforme en Allemagne du Nord et, par leurs enseignements, au rayonnement de l'Université de Rostock, au bord de la Baltique. Notre exemplaire est intéressant également par le bel ex-libris gravé de Balthasar - Henry de Fourcy (1669-1754), membre d'une grande famille de parlementaires et nommé abbé de Saint Wandrille en 1690, dont la bibliothèque a été dispersée en vente publique en 1737. La première page de garde et son verso comportent une liste manuscrite de références contenues dans le livre.
