Voici les utoples de la Renaissance, nées de la découverte de peuples non rédimés par le Sauveur, donc soumis à la morale naturelle; puis l'influence du nationalisme la Salente de Fénelon et l'Eldorado de Voltaire. L'utopie était un pays d'abondance; avec Th. More et surtout Bacon, elle devient une terre d'exploitation et de recherche scientifique. L'époque prérévolutionnaire voit naître les anticipations avec L'An 2440 de Louis-Sébastien Mercier.
