Bentinck family copy: on the front pastedown is the engraved armorial bookplate of Lady Frances Bentinck; on the first blank and title-page is the ownership signature of W. Bentinck (presumably William, Frances' brother) dated 1806. Frances and William were two of the six children of Margaret Bentinck, Duchess of Portland, who was the richest woman in Great Britain and a member of the Bluestockings. Among her considerable collections was the Portland Vase.Prelims faintly foxed. Front endpapers slightly marked. Covers rubbed at the edges. Very good.
