All illustrations and maps complete. xxii, 380pp. An acceptable reading copy Colonel Fyler was the Late Commanding officer of the 50th (The Queen's Own) Royal West Kent Regiment, retired on Full Pay. He compiled this book using original despatches, and other documents at the record office of the Orderly Room Records of the Regiment and used some valuable papers at the War Office. The book discusses the formation of the 50th or 7th Marines, 1741, then the formation of Shirley's 50th and Capture of Oswego, 1756. He develops this into the history of how the 52nd Regiment becomes the 50th. There is also a detailed description of the uniforms of the regiment from the earliest date, along with several beautiful illustrations of these. He then continues with descriptions of the Seven Years' War 1760, battles or campaigns in Corsica, Egypt 1801, Copenhagen, Vimiero, Coruna, Walcheren, Peninsular, Jamaica, India, Crimea and New Zealand. There are many appendices including short sketches of the life of Sir C Napier and Sir Hudson Lowe. also a description of prisoners of war in Russia, some official letters and lists of Colonels etc. and Stations. It is well illustrated with several maps and many plans, all as line illustrations.
