Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Original chromo-lithograph caricature from the album of 'Chargeons les Russes' which collaborated with French engraver Daumier. Print size: Folio, 34x25 cm. glued on a paper sized: 43x33 cm. Signed on the bottom corner by pencil as 'Cham'. Text is in French: 'Le Cosaque: Mon honoeur est engage, je ne retirerai ma main qu'avec votre foulardet tout ce que vous avez dans votre poche!'. Ottoman and Russian soldiers in front of the 'Provinces Danubiennes' signboard. [With] Autograph letter signed 'Cham' in 1875, March 27 to an unknown friend. 1 p. Size: 14,10,5 cm. In French. Cham was raised by a family who wished for him to attend a polytechnic school, he instead attended painting workshops hosted by Nicolas Charlet and Paul Delaroche and began work as a cartoonist. He eventually took up the pseudonym of "Cham". In 1839, he published his first book, Monsieur Lajaunisse, which began a career that would span 40,000 drawings. In 1843, he began to be published in newspapers like Le Charivari, a publication where he was staff for thirty years. Later works included Proudhon en voyage and Histoire comique de l'Assemblée nationale. He wrote several comic plays towards the end of his life. "Mon cher ami, de noce et festin Mardi. Qu'il y long temps que je n'ai en le plaisir de vous voir! Triste! Triste! Trei a vous. A Samedi soir 27 Mars [[18]75].". [i.e.] "My dear friend, wedding and feast Tuesday. How long it has been since I have had the pleasure of seeing you! Sad! Sad! To you. To Saturday evening March 27 [[18] 75].".

Cuir pleine peau à quatre nerf. Condition: Très bon. Edition originale de l'Imprimerie Royale, Paris, 1826. In-8. Belle reliure (réalisée sans doute un siècle plus tard), cuir pleine peau bleu noir avec décor gravé doré dans le style de l'ouvrage original dont la couverture a été conservée par le relieur. Dos orné à quatre nerfs. Tranche supérieure dorée. Beau papier marbré décor à l'huile sur les plats internes. L'intérêt de cette édition originale réside naturellement dans la valeur historique de ce témoignage d'un acteur direct de cette expédition militaire mais aussi dans la beauté de l'iconographie des 19 planches lithographiées et aquarellées et de deux cartes repliées hors texte. L'état de fraicheur de cet exemplaire est tout simplement stupéfiant. Le Comte de Noé, émigré français ayant fui la Révolution, passa au service de l'Angleterre et fit carrière dans l'Armée des Indes. Il décrit la situation politique en Inde, son embarquement et son voyage jusqu'en Égypte dans l' expédition sous les ordres du Général Abercromby. L'arrivée à Kosseir, la traversée du désert, Kéna, Le Caire, Alexandrie. La situation après la capitulation et le départ des Français. Etat exceptionnel.
