Discendente da nobile famiglia, lo storico Girolamo Franchi di Conestaggio (Genova, 1530 circa - 1617 circa) fu Segretario del Cardinale Sforza e Cappellano di Filippo III, e in seguito Vescovo di Nardo e Arcivescovo di Capua. Il presente testo, stampato la prima volta a Venezia dal Pinelli nel 1614, è un fondamentale studio sulla guerra nei Paesi Bassi nella seconda metà del XVI secolo. > Graesse, II, 248. Encuadernación portuguesa del siglo diecinueve en piel, lomera con tejuelo y adornos dorados en las calles, firmada por Alberto Vianna. Primera edición "rarísima" (Palau). Se trata de un interesante tratado que estudia las causas de la incorporación de Portugal a Castilla durante el reinado de Felipe II. En la obra se mencionan los descubrimientos de Cristóbal Colón y el establecimiento de los portugueses en Brasil (especialmente Bahía y Pernambuco, Africa y la India. La obra discute la obra de las misiones de los jesuitas por el mundo, así como información acerca de China y Japón. Portada reforzada al verso en los márgenes exteriores, mínimo taladro en el margen superior de los preliminares sin afectar, algún pliego ocasional amarronado por la acidez del papel; folio 264 con restauración en el margen inferior sin afectar.
