"With coloured illustrations from paintings by the author." Very good, first edition. Brown pebbled cloth covered boards with black-stamped decorative borders and details and gilt-stamped lettering on front panel and spine; same decorations and borders are blind-stamped on the back panel. Edges at head and tail of board spine are rubbed and with some fraying. Upper edges of front and back board panels are bumped, approx. 3" from the fore-edge corners, as well as the upper edges of the text the same location - see photo. Fore-edge corners are rubbed through. Spine edges are scuffed. Previous owner's small bookplate on front paste down; inscription on FFEP. Faint foxing throughout, mostly in the margins or versos to illustrations. Pages 61-62 are loose. Back inside hinge has 3 1/2" crack from the upper corner but holding. Text block is stable.
