Deux oeuvres historiques et archéologiques du moine, historien et théologien Giovanni Domenico Costadoni (1714-1785), souvent appelé ,Dom Anselmo? Costadoni, l'un des plus savants religieux camaldules, était le fils d?un riche marchand vénitien. Après ses études dans un collège des jésuites, il entra dans le monastère de Saint-Michel sur l?ile de Murano près de Venise. Il travailla pendant 18 ans à l'étude des antiquités avec le P. Mittarelli , et coopéra au grand ouvrage de ce savant religieux , intitulé : "Annales camaldulenses". Nos deux dissertations ens. dans une brochure d?attente étaient déstinées à la publication dans l'immense collection du P. Ange Calogera, camaldule, dans laquelle ce savant a recueilli sous le titre de Raccolta d'opuscoli scientifici e filologici (51 vol., Venice, 1728-1754) une grande quantité de dissertations des savants italiens sur les questions les plus curieuses de l'archéologie liturgique. Stralcio dall'opera "Crux dominica adorabile Christianae religionis vexillum observationibus et compluribus antiquis monumentis nunc primum editis inlustratum" pubblicata a Firenze nel 1749 e contenente alcuni saggi. Questo e' il primo saggio (inizia a pagina 1) ed era preceduto da un indice generale (in numeri romani) dei diversi articoli contenuti nel volume (qui assente). L'articolo e' completo (70 pagine come da confronto con esemplare scansionato dell'intero volume della Biblioteca nazionale austriaca) nonostante il richiamo "crux" alla fine di pagina 70 che con tutta probabilita' fa riferimento alla didascalia della seconda tavola prevista per essere montata in fine (ma tra le pagine 18 e 19 nella nostra copia). Saggio relativo all'icona greca lignea raffigurante una croce, conservata nel Monastero di San Michele a Murano (Venezia), al cui interno e' conservato un pezzo della Croce di Gesu'.ÂSotto la traversa della Croce sono raffigurati l'imperatore Costantino e la madre Elena.
