Cox on the occasion of the first public exhibition of New-York Medical College, brilliantly encapsulates the passion and drive behind the newly formed institution and elucidates the author's belief in medicine as a practice marked by intellectual rigor and an unyielding commitment to furthering knowledge. In a departure from his colleagues who, by and large, saw quackery and charlatanism as an unfortunate but unavoidable reality in the medical profession, Cox fervently believed that through raising the standards of medical education, such ills could be minimized. The book reflects his passionate belief in the potential progress of their field and his drive to create a world-class medical school in New York. It also gives valuable historical context to the rise of medical institutions in the United States, and the ongoing debate over professional standards and practices within them through the mid-19th century. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
