Following Franz Iâs accession, the book describes the course of the Napoleonic wars, in which Austria was repeatedly defeated and forced to cede territory to France. Nonetheless, the book argues, it contributed to the final defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo. The book also discusses the conservative rule of Metternich and the 1848 revolutions, which challenged Austriaâs position as leader of the German Confederation and its role in European affairs. The author concludes with an analysis of the factors that led to the decline of the Habsburg monarchy, and the eventual collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
