Greyish-brown card cover with overlapping edges and lettering in black and red. 115 x 173 x 11mm. 65pp. Edges of cover a little browned and lightly worn; light foxing to page-edges and first and last few leaves; internal contents otherwise clean and bright throughout. A good copy in contemporary half black morocco, marbled boards. Neatly rebacked, some rubbing to the boards, and occasional foxing and minor marking. New end-papers and paste-downs. 8vo. Teignmouth: printed and sold by E. Croydon, Public Library. 1823.

Hardcover, no jacket, red cloth with black titles, excellent condition, no remarkable flaws, first printing of this edition as indicated by the publisher's "1" in the number line on copyright page, "First printed at the 'Advertiser' Offices, 36 High Street 1925. This edition printed with additional images from The Museum of Witchcraft, Bocastle"; 97 pages.

First edition, a superior copy in red morocco, with the bookplate of John Fisher, Bishop of Salisbury. Fisher was "a highly cultured prelate, a generous patron of both authors and artists, and a capable sketcher; he was chaplain to the Royal Academy in 1807 and helped to set up the British Institution the previous year. For the last twenty-five years of his life he was one of John Constable's leading patrons" (ODNB). The work concludes with a chapter on the conchology of the region. The work is variously attributed to Edward Croydon, the publisher; William Bonneau Noble (1780-1831), the illustrator; or the engravers, Daniel Havell and James Shury. Abbey Scenery 115; Tooley 347. Octavo (211 x 134 mm), in four parts. Folding engraved map as frontispiece, 16 hand-coloured aquatint plates by D. Havell and others after Noble, 3 of these folding. Contemporary red straight-grain morocco, flat spine gilt in compartments, sides panelled in gilt and blind and centred with a blind arabesque within a wide gilt lozenge, brown endpapers, edges gilt. With the contemporary bookplate and ownership inscription of Elizabeth Mirehouse, and with the bookplate on the rear pastedown of John Fisher (1758-1825), Bishop of Salisbury. Extremities rubbed, the map with short marginal tear, occasional light browning, an excellent copy.
