London: Blackie and Son Limited Beautifully illustrated book showing the adventures of hunting hounds, 34 pages with every other page one or more colour illustrations with the story in verse. The pages instead of being printed each side are printed side by side and then folded so that the illustrations are bck to back then bound into the book, the first of these has split to a length of 3 inches at the fold but been repaired internally with pasted on paper, a neat repair, the second page has a smaller split around ½ inch this has not been reaired. First and last couple of pages are medium to heavily foxed with just occasional spots on the other pages. Book has been professionally respined keeping the original illustrated endpapers, these are browned and a triangular loss to front bottom right of endpaper 5½ iches across by 2 inches at its deepest point. Book is not dated but has previous owners details in ink on the inside front board dated 1908. outer boards are rubbed and worn on edges with boards showing through, some marking. Though not perfect still a pleasing copy of a collectable bookSEE IMAGE. DETAILED IMAGES AVAILABLE ON REQUEST. Illustrated Boards. Good/No Jacket. Illus. by J A Shepherd. 15½ x 10¾ Inches. Externally, smart with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Minor loss to the corner of the front board. The odd mark to the board. Light fading to the spine. Rear hinge tender but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light age toning. Very Good. book.

    FIRST EDITION (1908), folio, 395 x 275 mm, 15½ x 10¾ inches, cloth backed grey boards illustrated brown and white, green and cream illustrated endpapers, illustrated half-title, (34) pages Japan folded. Colour illustrated title page and 32 pages of delightful coloured illustrations, text above and below. Foxhound puppies get up to every sort of prank. Corners and board edges slightly rubbed, tiny chips to surface at top and bottom edges of boards, head and tail of spine just very slightly worn, minute nick in spine cloth. Endpapers slightly browned, half-title foxed and last page slightly foxed, occasional faint foxing to margins. A very good clean bright copy. The reprints are smaller (270 mm, 10¾" tall) with a mounted colour plate on the cover. J. A. Shepherd (1867-1946) was an animal painter known for humorous drawings of animals with human clothing and personalities.
