The pages instead of being printed each side are printed side by side and then folded so that the illustrations are bck to back then bound into the book, the first of these has split to a length of 3 inches at the fold but been repaired internally with pasted on paper, a neat repair, the second page has a smaller split around ½ inch this has not been reaired. First and last couple of pages are medium to heavily foxed with just occasional spots on the other pages. Book has been professionally respined keeping the original illustrated endpapers, these are browned and a triangular loss to front bottom right of endpaper 5½ iches across by 2 inches at its deepest point. Book is not dated but has previous owners details in ink on the inside front board dated 1908. outer boards are rubbed and worn on edges with boards showing through, some marking. Shepherd (1867-1946) was an animal painter known for humorous drawings of animals with human clothing and personalities.
