First edition. 4to. Original blue cloth. Inscribed to a label on the front pastedown, "To Mrs Barker, a record of John Worthing's past". A good copy, upper joint starting, unevenly faded to covers, light foxing throughout. "John Worthing" is listed as one of the dedicatees of the book, and is the named used to refer to the territorial Mr J. W. Barker throughout. It seems likely that the Mrs Barker for whom this copy is inscribed is his wife or mother. The Territorials (British Territorial Force) were a volunteer auxiliary of the British Army, established in 1908, and consisting of several Divisions. The Home Counties Division, Royal Field Artillery, Sussex Battery was posted to India in October 1914, and served alongside the 3rd Indian Army Corps - this is their story. Uncommon. COPAC lists one copy at the British Library and we have traced only two others held institutionally (at the IWM and MoD).
