Publisher's original buff boards printed in black (front cover lacking), spine perished. 16 engraved plates, mostly double-page or folding, comprising maps, battle plans, and views. Scattered foxing throughout, sold as a collection of plates. Issued in three volumes, with two volumes of text and one atlas volume. This the second edition of the atlas volume, first published in 1828. Suchet's famous Memoirs on Napoleon's campaigns in Spain between 1808 and 1814. Louis Gabriel Suchet (1770-1826), Duke of Albufera, was one of Napoleon's most brilliant generals. After participating in the siege of Zaragoza, he was appointed general of the army of Aragon and governor of the province, which, through wise administration and courage, he brought to submission in two years. He defeated Blake's army at María on June 14, 1809, and on April 22, 1810, inflicted a severe defeat on O'Donnell. After being named Marshal of France on July 8, 1811, he achieved the conquest of Valencia in 1812, for which he was rewarded with the title of Duke of Albufera. By Louis XVIII he was made a peer of France on June 4, but, having helped Napoleon during the "hundred days", he was deprived of his nobility on July 24, 1815.
