The author notes the depreciation of the English coinage through clipping, and that it is consequently less valuable in international trade than the currencies of other countries. This ensures England is paying more for its imports than its rivals and too much coin is leaving the country, which the author, in the mercantilist tradition, bemoans. England was then debating the devaluation of its currency, replacing the widely clipped and forged coinage with new coins at a lower value. The author asserts "surely this fallacy can never pass upon English men" (p. 9). The authorship doubtfully attributed by Foxwell to Paul d'Aranda. A variant edition does not give a printer.
