With the "Freedom Party" (FPÖ) turning populist, xenophobic and anti-European Union, paired with the arrival of new parties such as the environmentalist/progressive "Greens," the Austrian party system realigned in 1986 and new center-right coalitions (ÖVP and FPÖ) came to govern Austria. Today political campaigns in Austria, too, are run on social media and millennials have less faith in democracy.

Auch in der aktuellen Finanzmarktkrise sahen sich die Staaten gezwungen, Massnahmen zur Stabilisierung des Finanzsektors zu ergreifen. Die USA, und nach anfänglichem zögern auch die europäischen Staaten, reagierten mit sehr energischen, teilweise aber auch ausgesprochen unkonventionellen Lösungsansätzen. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es zu untersuchen, mit welchen Krisenbewältigungsstrategien ausgewählte Staaten auf die Marktverwerfungen in der aktuellen Finanzkrise reagiert haben. Konkret werden die Rettungsbemühungen des Vereinigten Königreichs, Frankreichs und Deutschlands miteinander verglichen. Ein weiteres Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es herauszufinden, inwiefern sich durch die staatlichen Rettungsmassnahmen das Verhältnis zwischen dem Staat und dem (Finanz-)Markt gewandelt hat oder wandeln wird.
