Soft Cover. Condition: Like New. 2nd English Language Softcover Ed. 819 pages. Illustrated. Comments on the back cover: ".David Hoggan explains why Hitler decided to attack Poland in 1939 and examines the shortsighted policies that made war all but inevitable. He examines the familiar claims about British 'appeasement,' the 'shameful' Munich agreement, and 'rape' of Czechoslovakia. He dismantles the often-repeated charge of sole German responsibility for the 1939 war, which for many years has been a centerpiece of the prevailing narrative of twentieth century history.Britain's actual foreign policy moves following its fateful March 31, 1939, 'blank check' guarantee to Poland, Hoggan writes, 'were directed unrelentingly toward war.' During the months leading to the outbreak of ohostilities, he adds, 'Britain was encouraging Poland to adopt a hostile policy toward Germany despite the generous terms which Hitler had offered for a lasting German-Polish settlement."The unreasonable attitude adopted by the Polish government in 1939 is no mystery when one considers the grandiose British assurances to Poland after August 1938,' Hoggan concludes. 'The Polish leaders made a German-Polish war inevitable by creating a permanent crisis and refusing to negotiate for its solution.'". Actual Causes of WWII.

Softcover. Condition: Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: in wraps. Vintage Softcover, 1985, Institute for Historical Review, 250 pages. Good+, in blue wraps with white titles. Minor shelf/edge wear, one small closed tear to the rear cover and a small tape reinforcement to the bottom of the spine by the previous owner. No other flaws - all pages are clean and unmarked. 8 chapters covering a span from the American revolution to the Korean War. David Leslie Hoggan (March 23, 1923 ? August 7, 1988) was an American author of The Forced War: When Peaceful Revision Failed and other works in the German and English languages. In his 1965 book, The Myth of the 'New History': The Techniques and Tactics of the New Mythologists of American History, Hoggan attacked all of the so-called "mythologist" historians who justified dragging America into unnecessary wars with Germany twice in the 20th century. Hoggan was born in Portland, Oregon, and received his education at Reed College and Harvard University. At Harvard, Hoggan was awarded a PhD in 1948 for a dissertation on relations between Germany and Poland in the years 1938?1939. Very respectable vintage copy of a scarce work by a revisionist historian. ISBN-093948420X.LOC SSS-01.
