Obwohl er absolut nichts Böses beging, wurde er mit den Seinen aus der Gesellschaft ausgestoßen. Es gibt kein Maß, mit dem man das Leid des kleinen Rubinowicz messen könnte. Dennoch fühlt dieser arme und s…cheinbar einfache Junge keinen Haß zu seinen Verfolgern. Nach den Gesetzen, auf die sich die Psychologie im allgemeinen stützt, müßte all das Furchtbare, das David erfuhr, in ihm alle menschlichen Gefühle töten, ihn gleichgültig gegenüber allem machen, was nicht seine eigene Sicherheit bedeutet. Aber gerade weil der kleine David keine Vergeltung will, nicht von der Rache träumt, nicht einmal anklagt, ist sein Tagebuch eine der dramatischsten, ausdrucksvollsten Anklagen. -- Aus dem Nachwort der polnischen Ausgabe -- Dieses Tagebuch des zwölfjährigen David wurde in der Zeit zwischen März 1940 und Juni 1942 geführt. Es besteht aus fünf Schulheften in sorgfältiger Kinderschrift. Das ärm liche Leben der Familie Rubinowicz entsprach dem damals üblichen in der polnischen Provinz,- der Vater führte im Dorf Krajno einen Milchladen. Im Frühjahr 1942 trieb die SS die Juden der Umgebung in der kleinen Stadt Bodzentyn zusammen, einer der vielen Vorhöllen der Vernichtung. Die aus ihren Häusern Gejagten wurden zusammengepfercht, zum bloßen Vegetieren gezwungen. Wer die Sperrzone verließ, wenn auch nur auf der Suche nach Brot, wurde erschossen. Enge, Erniedrigung und Angst fanden ihr scheinbares Ende in jenem Trompetensignal auf dem Marktplatz, das den Befehl zum Abtransport ankündigte. In Viehwaggons zusammengepreßt fuhr man alle in unbekannte Richtung in den Tod. -- In der ausgeraubten Wohnung der Rubinowicz' entdeckte ein Nachbar die Hefte Davids und versteckte sie auf dem Speicher -- Einige Jahre später warf man sie beim Aufräumen des Bodens auf den Kehricht. Avec une introduction par le journaliste pacifiste Pier…re Paraf (1893-1989), il s'agit de la première publication en français des impressions notées sur des cahiers d'écolier par David Rubinowicz (1927-1942), du 22 mars 1940 au 1er juin 1942, avant sa déportation pour Treblinka. C'est tout le destin des Juifs polonais qui revit ici : David raconte les raids, les spoliations et confiscations aléatoires de biens et de nourritures, les tentatives désespérées pour échapper aux rafles, en se cachant chez des voisins ou en fuyant à travers les champs. Découvert après la guerre par la journaliste Maria Varochowska, le texte fut d'abord publié en janvier 1960 dans la revue polonaise Tworoczosc. Ce journal fit immédiatement sensation dans toute la Pologne, fut rapidement traduit dans de nombreuses langues et réédité à plusieurs reprises.
