Hardcover. Condition: Good Only. First Edition. 808 pages. Leather covers with gold lettering. Spine is loose. Front cover is loose. Biinding generally is loose. Pages 599-602 are missing: The book has the following inscription: "This book is a Present from Capt. Mendis to my Daughter in Law Lizzie Mendis" on front free endpaper. Further there is a pencil note on verso of front endpaper that reads: "This book is a present from Josephine E. Healey Hardy (grandaughter {sp} of Captain Mendis (Antonio Mendez) to her daughter Ona Hardy Evers. 1979. (Someone has torn out biographical sketch of Anton Mendis - pg 599 - which I understand was inaccurate. Said Antonio Mendez, was Portuguese, not Spanish, etc. He was born in Barcelona, Spain. Ona C. Evers." Illustrated. Sacramento County history with an interesting association history. Cover title is "Pen Pictures from the Garden of the World", a title used by the publisher for a number of similar books covering different counties of California.
