Johann Andreas Deisch, "Geburtshelfer in Augsburg in der Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts. Er hat dadurch eine höchst traurige Berühmtheit erlangt, daß er sich in seiner Praxis der rohsten und barbarischsten Entbindungsmethoden bediente und sein Verfahren in eignen Schriften zu rechtfertigen bestrebt war. Schon seine 1740 zu Straßburg erschienene Inauguralschrift handelte von der Nothwendigkeit der scharfen Instrumente in der Geburtshülfe, seine Thätigkeit aber wird am besten durch die zuverlässige Angabe beleuchtet, daß er im Jahre 1753 unter 61 Geburten 29 Mal scharfe Instrumente in Anwendung zog, und daß von den Müttern 10 starben. Die Sache war so arg, daß sogar die Gerichte ihn zur Rechenschaft zogen und eine Anfrage bei der Universität Helmstädt veranlaßten, welche seine Arbeiten sehr nachtheilig beurtheilte. Obgleich er sich in verschiedenen Schriften energisch zu vertheidigen suchte, wurde er 1761 gezwungen, einen Eid zu leisten, er wolle der Augsburgischen Hebammen- und Accoucheur-Ordnung, sowie dem Befehle der medicinischen Facultät zu Helmstädt künftig nachkommen, und nie ohne Zuziehung eines anderen Arztes von seinen Instrumenten Gebrauch machen. - Die Hauptschrift von Deisch ist betitelt: "Kurze und in der Erfahrung gegründete Abhandlung, daß weder die Wendung, noch englische Zange in allen Geburtsfällen vor Mutter und Kind sicher gebrauchet, und dadurch die scharfen Instrumente gänzlich vermieden werden können", 1754, 2.
