Elizabeth Monica Delafield1890-1943 was a prolific English author. She is best known for her largely autobiographical Diary of a Provincial Lady, which took the form of a journal of the life of an upper-middle class Englishwoman living mostly in a Devon village of the 1930s. Vivian Ellis, 1903-1996 was an English musical comedy composer best known for the song "Spread a Little Happiness" and the theme "Coronation Scot". Size of paper slip is 100mm x 78mm. Thick protective page over the lithograph inscribed boldly, Compliments of SW Stevens, US Surveyor. Printed title page dated 1861; House of Representative Ex. Doc. 2d session, 36th Congress. 277 pages followed by 79 maps and lithographs and diagrams (hand numbered by the previous owner, and with a printed index of each, set inside. Forts around Lyon, Theatre of War in Crimea, Powder Magazine at Stettin, French Cavalry Barracks, Prussian Gun Carriages, etc., etc., 13 in color. Binding tight. Clean throughout. The presentation inscription at the front suggests that Stevens was someone, but we have not pulled on that thread. Please email with questions or to request photos.
