Up and Down the Mountain with Trudi and Hansel, A Story of the Austrian Tyrol was written by Averil Demuth and illustrated by Nora Lavrin. The book was published by The Junior Literary League and The John C. Winston Company in 1938 and appears to be a First Edition though it's not specifically stated as such. It's an ex-library copy and only in good condition with library markings and library wear, has no dust jacket, and has been rebound by the library in nice, sturdy, pictorial boards. The book appears to have been written with later middle school (junior high in 1938) in mind. Thank you!

Pages are bright and clear with light foxing and tanning to text block edges. Pen inscription to front free endpaper. Light cracking to gutters but binding remains firm. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear. Spine has light sunning with soft crushing to ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Unclipped dust jacket with minor rubbing, chipping and tearing to edges. Moderate tanning and scuffing overall.

This was Demuth's first book. It's the story of Trudi and Hansel with the cow Lotti, Berni the dog, Griselda the hen and Kraak the raven who all go up the mountain and meet the giant Riese before returning to the village. Supported by the gay and cheerful illustrations the book was very well received and set Demuth on her writing career.

The publisher's own retained copy with their inked 'file' stamp on the front endpaper and front panel of jacket. Copiously illustrated in colour and black and white throughout. Very good in slightly used, near very good dust jacket, with slight tanning at spine and some nicking at spine head.

Priceclipped dust jacket is also rather darkened and a little soiled, some wear to edges with a few closed tears, corner chips and loss to spine ends and top of rear cover.
