Juli 1999 in Paris) war ein französischer Maler, Bildhauer und Autor. Seine Werke werden dem abstrakten Konstruktivismus zugerechnet. Daniel Cordier MBE (* 10. August 1920 in Bordeaux…; 20. November 2020 in Cannes) war ein französischer Widerstandskämpfer, Kunsthändler, Historiker und Autor. Im November 1956 eröffnete Cordier im achten Pariser Arrondissement seine erste Galerie und arbeitete fortan als Kunsthändler. Nach einer ersten Ausstellung zu Claude Viseux stellte er gemeinsam mit Jean Dewasne, Jean Dubuffet und Roberto Matta aus. Acht Jahre lang stellte er viele Künstler aus, von denen er etliche selbst entdeckt hatte und unterstützte. 1964 musste er die Galerie schließen; aus wirtschaftlichen Gründen und wegen des mangelnden Interesses an zeitgenössischer Kunst in Frankreich. Cordier betrieb zwischen 1959 und 1963 auch in Frankfurt am Main eine Galerie, in der Taunusanlage 21; er stellte dort u. a. aus: Carl Buchheister, Dado, Karl Otto Götz, Roberto Matta, Henri Michaux, Manolo Millares, Louise Nevelson und Bernard Schultze. Dopo aver studiato musica e architet…tura, si è dedicato alla pittura, esponendo le sue opere per la prima volta nel 1941. Dal 1944 si orienta verso l'astrattismo geometrico. Fonda un Atelier d'art abstrait (1950) a Parigi. Nel 1951 realizza "antisculture" con oggetti di uso industriale e appositamente costruiti. Tra le sue opere monumentali, nelle quali si esalta il colore e la semplificazione delle forme geometriche come archetipi della civiltà e della tecnologia industriale, ci sono la decorazione dello Stadio del ghiaccio di Grenoble (1967), l'affresco per la nuova facoltà di medicina nell'università di Lille (1969), il grandioso environment per il Museo di belle Arti di Grenoble (1970), la decorazione per la metropolitana di Hannover (1975), la Muraille Antipode in place d'Italie a Parigi (1976). Dal 1986 al 1989 a Parigi (Grande Arche de le Défense) ha realizzato quattro gigantesche pitture murali (per un totale di 15 mila m2 ca.), classificate tra le più grandi al mondo."Il quadro non è una rappresentazione o una riduzione dell'uomo, cioè un uomo con qualcosa in meno. E' invece un oggetto dotato di vita propria e indipendente, il quale accoppia il meglio dell'uomo al meglio della materia. Il quadro non presenta tanto l'immagine dell'uomo, quanto dei fatti nuovi, che esso soltanto ha la possibilità di rivelare. Apre in tal modo orizzonti sconosciuti e insospettati dall'uomo." The MFAA was an Army unit locating stolen artworks which had disappeared into the huge Nazi hoards during the war. [The "Monuments Men"] Munsing later joined the U. S. Department of State during the later 1940's and '50's, where he established the State Department's Amerika Haus programs in Munich and Berlin and organized exhibitions and cultural programs in Germany and Austria. In 1955, he was named cultural officer at the American Embassy in London, where he staged exhibitions of such New York artists as Philip Pavia, Paul Jenkins and Ben Shahn and became an important force in the London art world. Munsing returned to the U. S. In the 1960's and 70's where he helped establish the contemporary art collection of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Washington (now the National Museum of American Art) and headed the State Department's Art in Embassies program.
