First Edition
First Edition. 12mo. Staple-bound pictorial wrappers; 40pp; illus. Light external wear and soil; internally complete, sound and unmarked; Very Good. Single issue of this low-budget interwar men's magazine, an amateur potpourri of off-color jokes, double-entendres, wink-wink nod-nod anecdotes, anti-Prohibition nostrums, and photo illustratons of scantily clad (by 1920s standards) Hollywood starlets, with captions such as: "Here she is fellers. This is the kind of lady who breaks up homes.how'd you like to have her break up yours?" And so on. Though the contents of Hot Dog never ventured beyond the palest shades of blue, its notional audience - American G.I.s who'd returned from the boites of Europe with suddenly "advanced" notions of sexuality and morality - were clearly appreciative, as Dinsmore's outfit kept up publishing at least until 1933.
