Booklet - Unbound Pages. Condition: Very Good. 25 pages. The austere and often troubling legacy of a group of Highland dissenters known as âThe Men,â who protested against the Established Church of Scotland and championed a purist, separatist vision of religious life. Drawing on testimonies such as Alexander Campbellâs Dying Tes…timony, the article examines the psychological and doctrinal intensity of these figures, their suspicion of mainstream clergy, and their preoccupation with personal conscience and divine assurance. Innes reflects on the paradox of professed sanctity coexisting with moral failure, including cases of murder and scandal among self-declared Christians. The piece is both a historical study and a moral inquiry, probing the line between spiritual conviction and self-deception, and questioning the social consequences of religious absolutism in rural Scotland. An authentic standalone article, extracted from a larger volume. Not a reprint or reproduction, but an original work in its own right. Preserved in a modern card cover, prepared for practicality - an unassuming but serviceable presentation that favours function over finery. Size: 18 x 26 cms. Category: Quarterly Review; Special Interest. Cosmo Books : 29 years on ABE, 47 years taking care of customers. A bookseller you can rely on.
