The majority of these refugees settled in America; the current population of Hmong in the country is over 350,000. With the great pressure on such migrants to learn the language and otherwise 'Americanize', many of the old traditions of the culture are lost to later generations. The present volume, a lively illustrated account of Hmong folk customs and beliefs gleaned from interviews of older Hmong refugees, is designed to preserve these fading traditions as much as possible. Author's dedication on FFEP; otherwise all pages clean and bright. 116 pp. + 10 unnumbered pp. 52 b&w and 20 col. photos, 20 sketches. Size: 22 x 18 cm.

Hardcover. Condition: Good +. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 1st illustrated edition in green paper covered boards with white lettering on spine. binding is tight, no cracking. Page block and some page edges noticeably foxed. Book has a slight forward lean and boards are moderately bowed. No names, writing or tears seen in the 188pp text. Facsimile jacket has lovely color art and a couple of repairs, displays well in new mylar. This is the most desirable issue of this story due to the great line drawings by Michael Lyne. Measuring 28 cm and limited to only 100 copies, this specific edition, signed by the author Don Willcox, is designated as No. 14. The covers are crafted from the wild fig "Amate" bark by the indigenous Otomi people of San Pablito, with cutouts designed by Rafael Lechuga and Phil Sutz. The woodcuts are created by Kerry Miller.
