A charitable collection box for the Wesleyan Missionary Society established in 1818 and founded to continue the extensive missionary work of Thomas Coke who was appointed by John Wesley to further the word of Wesleyan Methodism in America and the Caribbean. The society established missions throughout New Zealand following the establishment of Wesleydale, the mission at Kaeo, by Reverend Samuel Leigh, in 1823, and went on to establish missions in Asia, Africa and across the globe.
