It includes journals, logs, and personal memoirs by those who guided their boats through the wilderness, some filled with merchandise, some with timber, some with tourists. The book provides a rather comprehensive "I was there" look at the guideboat in action. The book also discusses some of the construction techniques that made the guideboat able to carry heavy loads while remaining agile in the water and easy to portage over land.
