(NICOLAS LUTON. 1723-1795) Nancy, Chez Thomas , 1766 - In8 ( 20x13cm) - plein veau d'époque - Dos à nerfs orné - IV + 176 pages - coiffe supérieure arasée , coins fortement émoussés , papier bien blanc et reliure solide. Ouvrage qui permettait alors de savoir de quel Duché et de quel Baillage l'on dépendait. Par exemple Ochey dépendait du Duché de Lorraine et du Baillage de Vézelise et Aubange ( Obange ) du Duché de Bar et du Baillage de Villers la Montagne . Les villes et villages dépendant de Metz ou de la Terre de Gorze ne sont pas répertoriés puisque n'appartenant pas ni au Duché de Lorraine ni au Barrois. Particulièrement intéressant puisque publié l'année mème du rattachement du Duché de Lorraine a la France.

Nous avons les trois tomes et le quatrième de supplément. Après une introduction historique de la Lorraine se trouve une description géographique, village par village, bailliage par bailliage. Jean-Baptiste Luton Durival, né le 4 juillet 1725 à Saint-Aubin-sur-Aire et mort le 14 février 1810 à Heillecourt, est un historien français. Frère cadet de Nicolas Luton Durival, Jean-Baptiste fut, après son frère, secrétaire des conseils d?Etat et des finances de Stanislas, duc de Lorraine. En 1766, il devint premier secrétaire des Affaires étrangères, sous le ministère du duc de Choiseul. En 1777, il fut envoyé en Hollande, en qualité de ministre de France. Il a fourni des articles à l?Encyclopédie sur l?Art militaire, et a laissé quelques opuscules inédits. Il a été membre de l?Académie de Stanislas. Très bel exemplaire. Vente Levrun 837, Noël 4067.
