First edition. viii, 314pp. With half-title and an engraved portrait frontispiece by Helen Allingham. Original publisher's blind-stamped navy cloth, ruled and lettered in gilt to spine. Lightly rubbed and marked, with chipping to head of spine. A presentation copy, with the inscription 'To Miss Reutland, with the best wishes of H. Allingham', dated 1st September 1915 to FFEP; later gift inscription from Irish author Aodh du Blacom, dated 20.XI.47 to foot of the same. Endpapers browned, light scattered spotting. A presentation copy of this collection of correspondence between various eminent Victorian literary figures - among them Robert Browning, George Eliot and Leigh Hunt -and Irish poet William Allingham (1824-1889), edited by his wife, British water-colourist Helen Allingham (1848 â" 1926). Cloth. Condition: Very Good Indeed. None (illustrator). An uncommon collection of letters to the Irish poet and diarist William Allingham. Containing letters from Robert Browning and Thomas Carlyle as well as his wife Helen, a well known water-colourist, the collection is an interesting insight into Nineteenth Century literary tradition and lifestyle. Contains a portrait of Allingham to endpages. In cloth binding with gilt detailng. Externally smart, there is some minor markings to the boards and shelfwear. Internally, the pages are firmly bound and are generally bright and clean, aside from the usual foxing to endpages. Very Good Indeed. book.
