Descriptions of LNN's many climbs in the Alps from his manuscripts for a book he was preparing to publish before his untimely death. Published posthumously, this book was edited by Ludwig's wife, May, who was with him on the climb where he perished and she gives the full account here of the climb and accident in the opening chapter. LNN was one of the best climbers of his era. He died in a fall witnessed by his wife on the Funffingerspitze. He had climbed extensively in the Alps, frequently on a rope with his wife. Henry William Gordon Kenrick, one of the largest individual collectors of British plants to be represented in the Hull University Herbarium, with 676 specimens covering the period 1889 to 1939.
