This two volume set of the history of the Kimberley, Pilbara and Gascoyne districts of North West Australia comprises a third impression of 1989 of the original published in 1979, volume two is a first edition published in 1994, both vols measure 26 cm deep by… 19cm. Vol one is 366 pages, Vol two is 390 pages. both are in VG+ red hard covers with gilt spine titles, both books have VG colour art, wrap roundf dust jackets and are illustrated throughout with b/w paintings by local artists, b/w photos, drawings, sketches etc. The books were published as part of Western Australia's 150th anniversay commemorations and are a "hands-on" tribute to pioneers and settlers of the remote Kimberly, Pilbara and Gascoyne regions --- a collection of memories, anecdotes, recollections, experiences, thoughts and poems by 120+ contributors who compiled the dozens of items as well as providing the photographs and a variety of other illustrations. Virtually every aspect of life, development, transport,l, the pioneers, the aboriginal community and of contemporary residents in this vast, hot and dry area is covered by these contributions, These books provides an excellent example of history that is not not the work of academic historians, but by a commuinty co-operative movement and told in the style and values of those who live North of the 26th. The colour art dust jacket for Vol One is by Hal Messingham and show the lighthouse at Capr Leveque, the Vol Two colour art jacket is by Elizabeth Durack-Clancy and shows horsemen on a cattle drive. This artist also provided the colour art e/papers for Vol Two which show a station family awaiting the arrival of a plane. Both jackets are in excellent condition with Vol Two having a tape repair to a short teatt at the spine top. Weight of both books is 2.2kg unpacked: additional postage would probably be required for overseas delivery. Photos, Art etc, (illustrator).

Green cloth covers. all vols have 'Property of Dr.Eustace Chesser' to fr.pastedown or endpaper plus another owner's sm.gilt label top fr.pastedown, all seem internally otherwise unmarked and are original bindings, one with a round vol.number at bottom spine, all generally clean with only…modest rubbing. The major flaw is that all volumes have had front and, usually, back gutters cracked open detaching textblock from covers before or after t.p. or final leaf. These have all been refixed using book-repair tape designed for the purpose but this is very white and clearly shows, while in some cases the damage presented a few difficulties resulting in a rather unsightly or less than fully satisfactory solution, this was especially so (a) in Series 6 where the end break came between pp.433/436 disbinding two leaves which were also browning along the gutter edge anyway - this required two procedures and (b) series 2 where the t.p. had been torn and partly detached and gutter break was opening pp.2/3 - again two interventions were needed and t.p. remains notably proud of textblock. This journal carried papers by many eminent early US and British psychoanalysts - and Janet too - as well as none-psychoanalytic papers, topics covered were also remarkably varied from sex worship among savages to alcoholic amnesia, Bernard Hart & Spearman on Mental tests of dementia to the 'Deforming influence of the home'. Books reviews also numerous. Paginations all, bar one, over 400 pp, most c.420, one 476, the other 370. Despite binding damage this remains externally reasonably attractive and an invaluable reference copy for the historian. Postage will obviously be considerable as net weight exceeds 6 kg.

An early pencil-written purchase receipt slipped into Vol.II, possibly Vesey's. Wilberforce (1805-1873) is particularly remembered for opposing opposing Darwin's theory of evolution in an 1860 debate at the British Association for the Advancement of Science. This seems to be extremely scarce, and is in remarkably attractive condition despite internal gutter faults and missing ills. to Vol.I, which looks like a productionor edition fault 14 cm x 22.5 cm.

William Yarrell [3 June 1784 - 1 September 1856] was an English zoologist, prolific writer, bookseller and naturalist admired by his contemporaries for his precise scientific work. He is best known as the author of The History of British Fishes (2 vols., 1836) and History of British Birds featuring 564 original engravings (in 3 vols., first ed. 1843, second ed. 1845, third ed. 1856). The latter went into several editions and was the standard reference work for a generation of British ornithologists. Prompted by a letter from French statesman Anne-Robert-Jacques Turgot criticizing the complex structure of early state constitutions, Adams composed a massive, encyclopedic defense of a tripartite government consisting of an executive, a bicameral legislature, and an independent judiciary. The publication timing of Volume I was extraordinarily influential. It arrived in Philadelphia in May 1787 just as delegates gathered for the Constitutional Convention.
